New Poster!!
Ok, here is the beginning of my attempt at officially blogging. I have finally finished the bulk work of the new site including my online portfolio work as well as posters and pricing. All year long, I have focus on both training and racing, mainly because work has been short (none) and web work has… uhh.. been the same.. (none).
Well, now that I have a couple of sites lined up to create, all of a sudden, everybody wants a site and/or poster work. I now have 9 sites to do, 2 more posters in the works and am still getting emails for more web questions.. Feast or Famine, but now I’m like, wow, how am I going to get this all done? I still don’t know.
Anyway, this poster is my latest. Its of Matt Holden, one of my competitors in the AA class of the North Carolina series. Matt’s mom takes tons of shots of us racing all thru the year. She is great to send me some as well as those involved. His parents are always there to cheer us on, all of us, competitors or not, which is very cool.
One great story about Matt this year that I can remember to help show his great character is during one of the races, he accidental took out another fellow class racer in the heat of battle, Bret Compton. Bret tells me that Matt realized he was in the wrong, so pulled over waited for Bret to get back up and going, let him by and tucked in behind.
That’s classy racing
Yadkinville GNCC – Friday set up
Rode with Cal Northorp today to the RidePg’s open house 1st annual ride day at Center Road MX Track in Boonville. Got a little practice in, then loaded up and went to drop the trailer and bikes off at the Yadkinville GNCC site.
Lucky us, parked right next to Patrick from Rekluse and their set up. Patrick will be riding CV4’s and FTI Racings project bike from Dirt Bike Magazine in the Vendor Challenge in the morning race of the GNCC. I will in turn race the bike in the Open A class in the afternoon race, so the bike will certainly have a workout on Sunday. Anyway, all the big rigs were in setting up and the GNCC crews were very hard at work getting the track and pits bannered and set up. A lot of work was going on, and the rain clouds kept rolling in.
Anyway, we dropped the trailer off, said our peace with about a hundred different people, then headed home. Cal will be heading back to the track tomorrow for the quad races and I will be heading up Sunday morning.
Gonna be a nasty, sloppy good old fashion mud bog….
Hole in the Gas Tank?
Got up early, drove 3 hours to the Mideast race today. On the way, my pal Vance calls me and said Morganton has a 100% chance of rain and to get ready for a slop feast, he wasn’t going…
It didn’t start raining until I got to Hickory, then it never stopped. At the track, they were pulling people IN to the parking area, always a bad sign… What a mess.. I recognize the place, this is the NCHSA’s Pilot Mountain Track, they call it something different for the Mideast Series..
Anyway, finally got parked and started to check things out, when a funny smell hit me, the smell of gas from the back of my truck…. Hmmmmmm… better check this out… After looking for a little while, I noticed the gas level in my bike was much lower than it should be, after all I just filled up. I also noticed a steady drip coming off of my frame to the truck, keep in mind it was raining, so very difficult to notice something right off.. Well after more investigating, realized it was seeping from my tank just above the frame, I figured I could fill it back up and still race the slop anyway..
Finally got signed in and shot the bull with everyone I ran into… Radfords, M Holden, B Dedmond, A Stelzig, S Chalk Jr., and others… Everyone had the same thing to talk about, the weather and how much fun we weren’t going to have..
On the way back, I stopped to talk to C Mullins, checked his van out as well… As most of you know, I have been looking for an extended cargo van for racing, Charlie has a regular size van, after chatting and checking it out, I am still on the hunt for an extended van, much more room.. The regular van is ok, but lacks space. Also Talked to J Robinson for a little, said Jesse’s broke hand was still swollen and hurting but he was going to get a lap in or two for points.
Got back to the truck to get dry for a while, when I noticed my fuel level was down to about half way now… So I took off the tank and found the spot, still don’t know how it happened. A hole in the tank where it rests right above the frame, how could that have happened. Anyway, where the leak is causes the fuel to run right down the frame, so I know it would be absorbed by my gear the whole race and really set me on fire, so I opted not to run the race today.
Loaded up and headed home, to stay healthy and strong for another day…. That day will be the GNCC in Yadkinville this Sunday, see you all there.
